FZED - Rodin Cars

The Rodin FZed presents a level of performance and precision that is not available in any other new track car. In fact, nothing else even comes close!

Not only is the performance well above any other single-seat racing car, the FZed offers an unprecedented level of driver challenge and track time satisfaction. However, at this level the satisfaction doesn’t come easily, as the driving challenge and exceedingly high limits of this car can only be mastered over a period of time.

The FZed delivers one of the greatest driving challenges – bar none.  It also provides unparalleled levels of entertainment and sheer enjoyment value that simply cannot be found in any other car.

The Problem

We know driving is your passion! We also know in this day and age that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to get any level of enjoyment and satisfaction on public roads. So the next best option is to attend track days, where you have the opportunity to explore more of your car’s potential.

However, without the luxury of specialty track tyres and purpose-built race equipment, even the very best road spec cars can become boring and unsatisfying when pushed to the limit on a track. Add to this the severe wear and tear a track day can inflict on a normal road car, and you start asking yourself: is it really all worth it?

The next best option is a purpose-built track day car. However most of these are just converted road cars or retired racing cars. Converted road cars can sometimes be an okay solution, but still tend to lack the precision and purity of a purpose-built racing car. Retired open wheel race cars definitely offer a better solution, however many of these older technology cars have a premium history and are becoming far too precious and expensive to run and maintain purely as track day machines. Add to this a distinct lack of parts, no support and expensive on-going maintenance costs, and the retired open wheel racer option can also become an unacceptable solution.

We know you like driving, right, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to get any level of enjoyment and satisfaction on public roads – so you attend track days, where you have the opportunity to explore more of your car’s potential.

However, without the luxury of slick tyres and purpose built race equipment, even the very best road spec cars can be boring and unsatisfying when pushed to the limit out on a track. Add to this the severe wear and tear a track day can inflict on a road car, and you start asking yourself: is it really all worth it?

Take up the Challenge

Almost anyone can drive a normal car, especially one blighted with an automatic transmission. A number can get a road based racing car around a track at least in a reasonable way, although not near its potential. But nobody without prior experience can step into an open wheel car and drive it at its full capability or even close to it. The driving challenge of such a car is way beyond the untrained person. But it can be learned, with experience. This is the Rodin Challenge.

The FZed Story

At age 20, David Dicker had a keen interest in both driving and engineering cars. Five years on, his interest turned to business and the dreams of building cars were far in the back of his mind for the next 20 years, but never entirely forgotten. In 1999, the Rodin project began. Then, in 2005, after a relocation and defining just what it is he wanted to achieve, David and his first employee began building test tracks in North Canterbury. In January 2016, David received an email from Lotus Cars offering their T125 project for sale. It looked like a current competition car, drove like one, yet could be run by competent amateurs. A stepping stone to the FZero. Rodin acquired the project which ultimately formed the basis of a car now called the Rodin FZed.

Output: 2017 The FZed. Improved performance in all areas.
